CommerceSomeone buying most of their things online

When I shop in an app, I want to buy only what I intended, so the month does not end with a list of orders I do not remember placing.

Khi tôi mua hàng qua ứng dụng, tôi muốn chỉ mua thứ mình định mua, để cuối tháng không thấy một danh sách đơn hàng mình không nhớ đã đặt.

Job context

Who

Situation
Buying is one tap away
Constraints
The app is designed to make buying as easy as possible

5 Pains

  • Buying takes a single tap

    High

There is no pause in which to reconsider.

Root cause: Every point of friction in the buying flow was deliberately removed

  • Countdown offers manufacture urgency

    High

    And urgency removes deliberation.

Root cause: The scarcity is manufactured rather than real

  • Adding items to reach free shipping

    Medium

Saving the delivery fee and spending more.

Root cause: The free-shipping threshold sits above the average order

  • No memory of how many orders this month

    Medium

    Each order small and scattered.

Root cause: No running total appears at the moment of buying

  • Much of what arrives goes unused

    Medium

    And the buying continues.

Root cause: There is no feedback loop between buying and using

5 Existing Solutions

A solution is not the same thing as a product, a customer can hire a behaviour or a workaround too.

  • Leave the item in the basket for days

    Behaviour

Manufacturing a pause the app will interrupt with reminders.

  • Delete the app from the phone

    Workaround

The most effective step, discarding the genuine convenience with it.

  • Turn off promotional notifications

    Behaviour

Cuts the main trigger, and must be redone after updates.

  • Write a list before opening the app

    Behaviour

The most effective way to hold an intention, sustained by discipline alone.

  • Use a spending tracker

    Product

Reports the spending, in another app and afterwards.

2 Opportunity Gaps

  • Shopping apps are optimised to remove every pause, while what the buyer needs is a pause, so the thing they need is the thing the platform works to eliminate.

Why existing solutions fail: Every metric in a shopping app rewards a higher conversion rate and a pause reduces exactly that number, so no product team can propose one and keep their job.

Potential opportunity: A tool outside the platform that reinstates the pause, a limit, a waiting period, which the platform cannot remove.

  • The buying decision happens inside the shopping app while the total appears in the banking app a month later, and the two never speak.

Why existing solutions fail: The shopping app knows exactly what the user has spent this month and never shows it, because showing it reduces the very thing being optimised, while the bank knows the number and stands far from the moment of decision.

Potential opportunity: Putting the month's total on the payment screen itself, from a source outside the seller.
